The advantage of the deck barge is that it is convenient to load and unload cargo and is suitable for transporting bulk cargo and large machinery.
The disadvantage of the deck barge is that the center of gravity of the cargo is higher, resulting in a smaller stability margin of the ship. In adverse weather conditions, such as continuous heavy rain, downpours and gusty winds, bulk shipments may collapse or move sideways, causing additional capsizing moments and increasing the risk of capsizing. Especially when transporting iron ore powder, the storm may cause the cargo to absorb water and saturate, forming a "free liquid level", which greatly reduces the stability of the ship and causes serious accidents. In addition, deck barges have rainproof problems when transporting wet goods, and effective measures need to be taken to cover them to eliminate safety hazards and improve transportation safety.
